About Orto Parisi brand
Alessandro Gualtieri, also known as “The Nose”, is a scent artist. He was born to the butcher’s family and spent his childhood in the gardens of his grandfather. During his studies, works and travels, he found a way to express himself and his ideas through scents. Today he is the mastermind behind the brands such as Nasomatto and Orto Parisi. He is constantly working to challenge the industry and himself. To break out of the bottle, The Nose has been creating olfactory installations and other projects that bridge the gap between scents and other senses.
Orto Parisi was developed upon three main themes that circulated in the nose of Alessandro Gualtieri. First, was the idea of freshness. If to ask “What is freshness?”, people tend to think of a seaside breeze, a smell of grass after the rain, faraway cold lands, the air in the mountains… But the scent of freshness can be something that happens in an instant, in a rushed and unexpected way. Freshness is about now. Like a slap in the face, a freshly killed prey, a smell of a freshly picked salad from the garden that still has a little bit of the soil attached to it. Captured by the idea that freshness is something that is still alive, something that is there and that is real, Alessandro decided to develop the new scent collection.
Second inspiration of the creations lies in the trip that he took down the memory lane by wanting to enliven and add some personal experiences from his childhood. Particularly to capture the summers spent at his grandparents’ and intense moments experienced in the gardens. His grandfather, Vincenzo Parisi, had a special relationship with the soil – he used to collect his needs in the buckets and fertilize the soil of the garden with them. The smell of an infinite was constantly present in this garden.
A smell of freshness and stench, attraction and repulsion.
Driven by these thoughts and memories, Alessandro began his research and faced the fact that nowadays, common bodily smells are perceived as unpleasant. The smells that were considered natural and common are now rather covered and over-deodorized. The third idea behind the concept of Orto Parisi, is the fact that Alessandro wanted to uncap the real smell of life by re-creating the references to the natural body odors in the Orto Parisi perfumes.
Orto Parisi is something very personal to Alessandro Gualtieri, as well as it is something universal, something that touches the overall topic of the scent culture and perceptions in general. One should keep in mind that the fragrances in this collection are not linked to each other. Each scent is a personal interpretation of the smell of life or an embodiment of one of Alessandro’s personal experiences.
